The Perfect Jeans

You can probably guess this from the image but, for the avoidance of doubt, when it comes to jeans I’ve only got eyes for Levi’s. Denim is a very personal thing, and everyone has a different idea about what makes a perfect pair versus a wear-once pair.

For me? They have to look effortless, like they’ve been in your wardrobe forever. That means a vintage wash. (not too light, not too dark) a high waist, perfectly placed rear pockets, and a leg that falls somewhere between straight and slightly tapered. And last, but by no means least, they must have minimal stretch. Ideally, none whatsoever. I’ve tried to get on board with a small percentage of elastane in my denim because, let’s be honest, they are marginally more comfortable. But I end up feeling like I’m wearing leggings, and when I’m actually making the effort to put actual clothes on (rare in these lockdown days) I want to feel like I’m wearing actual clothes.

Enter the Levi’s Wedgie Icon fit. Literally the perfect jeans. The only problem is that for some reason these aren’t sold in the UK anymore. Meaning I have had to make it something of a personal mission to track down all the US sites where they are available, shipping is free, and customs and duties are already included, meaning no nasty surprises when they arrive. Bizarrely, Levi’s don’t make it easy to shop this amazing style. It comes in myriad versions, as well as differing washes/colours, each style name is slightly differing in terms of the amount of elastane they have in them, any rips/fading and whether the hems are a raw or finished edge, so pay close attention to the images and descriptions to avoid buyers remorse. As for the images- you have to ignore the slightly trashy styling, particularly on Revolve. Needless to say you won’t be wearing them with a nude high heel…. look past the dodgy shoes and focus on the goods. In other words, keep your eyes on the prize.
